We’ve all got style inspirations from somewhere or someone, right? Well, Lana Del Rey is my “Religion” (Haha, I know. I’m lame). I swear, I’ll keep droning on and on forever if I describe my deeeeeeeeeeep passion for her music and her style.
I remember it was on my 19th birthday (one of the worst birthdays ever because I didn’t do shit and stayed at home), that I first listened to her music. I instantly fell in love with her hits “Summertime Sadness” and “Lolita”. I was laying in my dark room, hiding from the summer heat and thought to myself, “Daaamn who is this woman with the most soothing and sultry voice”. Sooo much moodiness, love, and sadness, at this point in my life I thought it was me in a nutshell. I love how her lyrics and songs are able to tell such alluring stories with such vivid imagery. From that day forward, I have been listening to her music every day. Every. Single. Fucking. Day.
By incorporating Lana’s style into my life, I would take some of her outfit styles from her music videos or some of her shows and try to personalize it into my own style for everyday wear. Plus, her music gives off certain vibes that feel I can understand, so meshing her style with mines was very easy for me since her style is very simple mixed in with something very girly and retro. For example, if you listen to “Lolita” you could tell it’s a very playful song about kissing and teasing boys. This song definitely made me feel very coy and naive, so much so that I felt like wearing a cute romper and having fruit punch lips with long wavy hair ;).
Fringed Jacket – Ever since I saw Lana’s white leather motorcycle fringe jacket in “Born to Die”, I fell in love with fringed jackets. I also felt like this fringed jacket would mesh well with the song “Brooklyn Baby” because I see her as this boho queen with feathers in her hair. The black suede fringe jacket that I have here is from Forever 21. It’s definitely a very special jacket to me because I got it from a very special person for Christmas :). Ever since I got this jacket I feel like I have upped my closet by a 100 points because this is one jacket in my closet that stands out the most. Plus, I love how much of a statement piece this jacket is, you could wear something very casual and plain like this and your outfit would still look fucking amazing.
Motorcycle Jacket & Gold Body Chain – In “West Coast” and “Blue Jeans” we know that Lana loves badass guys that look like James Dean :). So having a basic black motorcycle jacket is a staple piece in any closet (Even if you’re not a fan of Lana). Also, in the music video for “West Coast” I was so obsessed with the little dainty body chain she was wearing underneath her white V-neck and black leather motorcycle jacket that I had to find something similar. I loved how delicate the simple gold body chain is and wearing it underneath her clothes rather than on top made it 10 times more alluring to me.
Floral Prints (That give off a tropical vibe) – In many of her concerts, Lana is usually seen wearing dresses with flutter or bell sleeves with a tropical floral prints and sometimes she even walks around barefoot on stage. I thought these types of dresses go really well with her album Born to Die: Paradise Edition. As of late, I’ve been really in love with bell sleeves so it wasn’t too hard to convince me to start finding or wearing these types of tops. For this inspiration, I went with my purple kimono romper with flutter sleeves from Forever 21. I opted to go with a open-toe suede flat too look like I’m barefoot as well.
As Lana says, “Live fast, die young, be wild, and have fun”.
